Swan Lake
BalletMet | Swan Lake

We saw two shows this weekend, each received standing ovations. Both were good, but not exceptional. The standing ovation now seems matter-of-fact, expected, and given with no judgment passed.

BalletMet last performed Swan Lake in 2000, which we saw; I agree with Amy that the dancer of Odette was unbelievably swan-like in that performance; the dancer tonight was less so.

The program was far less discouraging toward camera-weilding patrons, though the pre-performance announcement prohibited using them during the show. This was reinforced by one of the ushers who must have seen someone with a camera out (still before the curtain rose) and snapped, "You, put that camera away. I don't want to see any flashes."

Rainy, grey
But pleasant -- I still got some work done in the garden, in between laundry loads.

Patti LuPone - "Matters of the Heart"
At the Palace Theatre

Unfortunately I wasn't permitted to bring a camera to the show. The program had dire language directed at anyone who had the temerity to even think of bringing a camera.

A day of pictures
From Gantz Park to Greenlawn Cemetery (Gallery) to the drive home.

ABOVE Stop lying. to America: There was no connection between Saddam & 9/11 -- Bipartisan Commission.

The Uncle Sam figure seated facing the rear was spanking a George Bush figure over his lap. I would have liked to have gotten a picture of that, but this was taken from a car at a stoplight, and there were no good spots to halt traffic to grab the shot.

Hopefully it was not someone trying to capture this on camera that knocked the stoplight out at the next intersection north. The repair crew was on site, as was a police officer. Rather than direct traffic, however, she (or someone else) had set up two temporary stop signs between lanes of Neil Avenue and was simply watching the ensuing mess. Columbus drivers are not capable of unexpected multi-lane stop signs.

.ABOVE Mona Lisa. Is missing her west wall. Driving home (from the Neil Avenue Giant Eagle (we needed taco shells for dinner)) through the Short North (to avoid experiencing the aforementioned dead light a second time) I noticed the lack of wall and the "For lease" sign. Where did the theater go?

First presidential debate
John Kerry looked solid, if not brilliant

George Bush looked irritated, unhappy, tired, ("This job is hard work." Repeat.) and off in a world of his own.

American Idiot
Green Day | Lyrics
Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.
Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

"He forgot Poland"
Australian Broadcasting Corp. |
'We were taken for a ride' over Iraqi WMD: Polish President
AM - Friday, 19 March , 2004  08:05:10

ALEKSANDER KWASNIEWSKI (translated): They deceived us about the weapons of mass destruction, that's true. We were taken for a ride.

Kerry shouldn't have forgotten Poland.

That would have been quite a rejoinder.

I think it was wise of local Republican organizations not to sponsor artists at this event.

Plumbing is not easy
(Though hopefully it won't come to demolition). We spent the evening attempting to lower the shower spray and install a showerhead that could deliver a stronger spray.

We ended the (late) evening frustrated and tired.
